With the plumbing out of the way (for now), I turned to the various air ducts. As originally designed, the bathrooms had no exhaust fans, instead relying on windows to exhaust the moist air. This is not a good setup, as heat also escapes through open windows, and the skylight is too much of a hassle to open and close on a regular basis. The master bathroom also didn't have any heating duct. Nor was there really any way to route a heating duct to the master bathroom, as the ceilings along the way have those exposed roofs that I'm so fond of.
The solution was to box in the area over each bathtub, creating a space in which I could run ducting and locate exhaust fans. Installing the exhaust fans involved cutting holes through the ceiling and installing a vent hood on the roof.
With the exhaust fans installed, I next ran some flexible ducting from the vent location in the master bathroom to the furnace closet.
I installed a Y-joint in one of the existing lines and connected the new duct, taking care to insulate things along the way. Working in the furnace closet was awkward, as space was very tight and it was quite a challenge to reach things.
I also framed a wider intake for the furnace in case I ever get around to having an air conditioner installed.
