While I have the drywall down, I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to bring the wiring into the 21st century. To this end, I've added modular jacks like this one in every bedroom and the living room. At each modular jack, I ran cat3 voice cable, several runs of cat6 network cable, and coax cable for TV. I added some additonal coax and network cable in the living room to service my future entertainment center. Of all the work that I've done so far, this has definitely made the place start to feel like home. All of these cables are routed through the walls of the house. It is really quite an impressive sight. Here you can see the cables from all over the house as they are routed to the central hub. One phone cable and one coax cable exit the house where they meet the external service drops.
The other end of the cables let out on the top shelf of my hallway closet, where all the interconnections are made. This took some careful crimping. Once I install electric outlets nearby, the cable or DSL modem, wireless router, ethernet switch, and coax signal splitter will all reside in this space, tucked neatly out of the way.
